Tips for Going Live on Social Media

Feel like you need some ideas for your live Facebook event? Look no further! Here you’ll find a couple of tips, as well as a script suggestion and prayer prompts for your event.

Promote your event beforehand.

  • Let people know that you’re going to be hosting an event that they won’t want to miss! You can do this by posting on Facebook, Instagram or whatever social media platform you like best in the weeks leading up to your event. We suggest posting up to three times before you go live.

Get your event going.

  • This probably sounds obvious, but we realize that not everyone has used Facebook Live before. If you’ve never used it, don’t worry — it’s simple! Start by logging into your Facebook account. On the homepage, click “Live Video,” which is found under the “What’s on your mind?” prompt. Once you do, Facebook will lead you through a few prompts to make sure your video and sound are set up correctly. And once you’re ready to start your live event, click “Go Live” on the bottom left side of your screen.

Be prepared with speaking and prayer prompts.

Suggested script:

  • “Hi everybody! Thanks so much for joining me! Today is Compassion Sunday, a day set apart to speak up and step up for children living in poverty.
  • “I’d like to begin by sharing a story with you. (Number of years ago), I began a very special relationship with (your sponsored child’s name).
  • “(Child’s name) lives in (country). (He/She) is (age) years old. And sadly, (he/she) lives in extreme poverty.
  • “I was connected with (child’s name) through an organization called Compassion International. If you’ve never heard of them, they’re an organization dedicated to releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name. And they do so by connecting children living in poverty with a loving sponsor — someone like me and you!
  • “My sponsorship connects (child’s name) to a local church in (his/her) community. It helps to ensure that (he/she) receives the physical, emotional and spiritual care needed to escape poverty. Plus, it allows us to create a meaningful relationship by exchanging letters a few times a year.
  • “Sponsoring a child has allowed me to answer God’s care to call for the poor.”
  • Share a favorite verse or Scripture reading that is relevant to your message.
  • “There are so many children in the world like (your child’s name) who are up against unimaginable odds and who feel hopeless.
  • “Today, I’d like to invite you to give one of those children the hope they desperately need by becoming a sponsor. Your sponsorship will connect the child to a local church that will step in to ensure his or her growth and development. Plus, you will be able to build a relationship with the child through thoughtful letter writing.
  • “If you feel like God is calling you to sponsor a child today, please go to (your personal sponsorship page link). I will also post the link in my profile.
  • “This is a powerful chance to join Christ-followers all across the country in answering a holy call … a call to HOPE.
  • “Be sure to comment or send me a message with any questions you might have.”
  • Close in prayer.

Prayer prompts:

  • Pray for children in poverty.
  • Thank God for the precious gift of ALL children.
  • Ask the Lord to provide the necessary food, water, medical supplies, educational support and spiritual care for all children living in poverty.
  • If you sponsor a child, lift him or her up. Pray that the child you sponsor knows he or she is loved, cared for and protected.
  • Pray for those who are listening.
  • Thank God for all those who have been listening to you share about child sponsorship.
  • Pray that God’s will would be done and that he’d move in the hearts of Christ-followers across the country to help release more children from poverty.
